As such they must have appropriate clothing and footwear and follow road safety rules such as correct use of footpaths, pavements and pedestrian crossings.

When running in the dark runners must wear hi Viz clothing. Head torches are recommended for some routes. For all night runs on Cannock Chase all runners are expected to have their own head torches for each run.

In hot weather all runners should have their own water on their run, and ensure they have suitable hats or visors as needed. Running belts with water bottles or backpacks can be purchased quite reasonable from sports stores and from online retailers.

New runners must state if they have any medical conditions which may affect their running. If they do, or if there is any doubt, they must not run until they obtain advice from their GP.

Runners must be normally capable of running 3 miles/5km at their own pace without stopping. We understand that new runners may wish to try to increase their pace which may then require them to slow down to recover. Due to our policy of mustering, runners will not be left behind. For those who are not yet capable of 3 miles, Rugeley Runners periodically run beginner’s courses details of which can be obtained from a committee member/Facebook/website.

Runners must follow the reasonable instructions of their run leader for that run. This includes mustering, the principles of which will be explained by the person doing the briefing. Mustering ensures that no runner is left behind. Run leaders will be identified at the start of each running session.

If runners need to stop or go back early, they must inform the run leader or another runner before leaving the group.

New runners can run with the club a few times (normally a maximum of 4 times) before being required to join the club by submitting a membership application with the appropriate fee. A committee member will explain the membership fees.

Should any runner fall or injure themselves on the run the run leader must be notified. For the safety of the group all runners must then muster to the incident so the run leader can assess the situation. Results from this may be that the run is halted (until the run leader deems it OK to continue), another run leader continues to lead the run, another runner escorts the runner back to the cricket club base (or to any other point if desired)

Runners with the club must be aged 18 years or over, the club is not licensed to have responsibility for any runners who are under 18. If the runner is under 18 they cannot run with the club and are encouraged to contact a local club that does admit juniors e.g. Stafford Harriers or to try the Cannock Chase Park Run where they can run with a parent/guardian once they have registered with Park Run online.

Rugeley Runners Committee
